In the Bronx, Joe, an Irish good guy, gets bad news twice the same day: he has a brain tumor and his wife wants a divorce, saying he's dull and lacks adventure. The veteran Vietnam lieutenant Jake Neeley lives alone in a cabin in the woods and his only contact with the civilization is through the owner of a small store, Kate, who periodically supplies his provisions. There's a secret war being waged in the homes and neighborhoods of Earth that the humans don't even know about; an eternal struggle between two great armies: the Cats and the Dogs.
