Il maresciallo Topponi si presenta una mattina nel grande negozio di tessuti del cavalier Pezzella, per un accertamento fiscale. Su consiglio del consulente fiscale, il negoziante tenta di corrompere il maresciallo, mandando dei vistosi regali....ad un indirizzo sbagliato. Avendo saputo che il maresciallo è un appassionato cacciatore, lo raggiunge una domenica mattina in pieno assetto di caccia, ma gli combina tanti guai da farselo nemico. Al ritorno dalla caccia i due uomini hanno un incidente che li costringe a farsi ricoverare all'ospedale: qui, insieme per forza, scoprono che la figlia dell'uno ed il figlio dell'altro si amano, ma il maresciallo non vuol sentir parlare di questo idillio. Ripresa l'ispezione, il maresciallo raccoglie materiale sufficiente, ma il commerciante riesce ad impadronirsi della sua borsa, contenente il verbale dell'inchiesta ed i documenti. Nel rimorso di poter compromettere la carriera dell'ufficiale, il negoziante, seguendo il consiglio del parroco, restituisce la borsa : questo gesto ristabilisce tra i due relazioni amichevoli, permettendo anche ai figli di poter coronare il loro sogno. La multa, quando verrà, sarà in qualche modo sistemata.

Charles Bosquier, a role apparently written for French comedy superstar Louis de Funès, is the dictatorial headmaster of a French strict boarding school. No father could be deeper shocked to find one of his own sons miserably failed his exams, and to embarrassed to enroll him for his own summer-school, so he sends Philippe to England as exchange student. Philippe planned to save his sailing plans with friends by sending fat nerd Stephane Michonnet to England using his name, which comes out when Michonnet gets indigestion. Meanwhile Charles expects his spoiled favorite son, Gérard, who tells daddy about all the other schoolboys for money, to chaperon Shirley, the daughter of his English counterpart MacFarrell, but the girl gets all French boys horny, so even his perfect record is soon gravely soiled as dad spies on them, and he and Shirley join Philippe and his friend. Now the headmaster chases the kids' yacht -incognito, to avoid a scandal- all the way to England where his colleague soon joins him, and further...

An allied bomberplane is shot down over Paris by the Germans. Its crew (Terry Thomas as a flight captain) land there by parachute. With the help of some French civilians (Louis de Funès in the role of a conductor and Bourvil as a house painter) they try to escape over the demarcation line into the southern part of France, still not occupied by the Germans.
