Steven R. Monroe started making films with the 8 millimeter camera his parents bought him at the age of 8. At the age of 12 he had already received his first paycheck in the camera department loading film and clapping the slate on commercials with his father who was a cameraman for over 30 years. Monroe's mother was a theatre actress/producer/director and studied at New York University, working as an assistant to the legend Haig Manoogian. His sister is film editor Julie Monroe. Steven spent his twenties working in the camera department as a First Assistant Cameraman and then Camera Operator for a decade on both films and television, before making his dream move up to directing. Monroe's first feature film was The Contract, for Producer Philippe Martinez. He has now directed two films for Martinez and also two films for Television legend Stephen J. Cannell. Now with over a decade under his belt as a director, Monroe is known for his passion with both Actors and the camera, setting a good atmosphere on the set, a very strict work ethic, and a knack for bringing a unique style to every project he directs.
